John 14:1-6 (ESV)
A Place Prepared for You
7 minute read
Jesus spoke these words on the night before the cross, to friends whose world was about to collapse. ‘Let not your hearts be troubled,’ He said, and then He told them about rooms—many rooms—in His Father’s house.
Notice the order. Before the disciples could do anything right, before they fled and denied and doubted, Jesus promised that a place was being made ready for them. Belonging came first.
Many of us approach November with a long list of preparations: menus, guest rooms, travel, gifts. Underneath it can sit a quiet fear that we will not be enough. Jesus answers that fear with a promise: you are expected. A place has your name on it.
Let this be the first word of the month. You are not preparing a table to earn a seat at His. You are setting your table as someone who has already been welcomed.
Reflect
- Where do you feel you must earn your place?
- What troubles your heart as the holidays approach?
- How would knowing you are expected change the way you prepare this week?
Pray
Lord Jesus, thank You for preparing a place for me before I prepared anything for You. Quiet my troubled heart with the promise of Your welcome. Amen.
