Psalm 23:5-6 (ESV)

A Table in the Presence

6 minute read

David describes a table set ‘in the presence of my enemies.’ God does not wait for every threat to disappear before He feeds His people. He spreads a feast in the middle of the trouble.

Some of us come to Thanksgiving carrying grief, strained relationships, or an empty chair. The holiday table can feel like a reminder of what is missing.

Psalm 23 does not ask us to pretend. It invites us to notice the table God is still preparing: daily bread, faithful friends, an anointed head, a cup that runs over.

Gratitude in hard places is not denial. It is the brave act of receiving what God sets before you while still telling Him the truth about what hurts.

Reflect

  • What hard place are you bringing to the table this year?
  • What has God set before you even there?
  • Who might need a seat at your table?

Pray

Good Shepherd, You prepare a table for me even here. Help me receive Your goodness with an honest, grateful heart. Amen.
