Luke 10:38-42 (ESV)
Make Room for Him
6 minute read
Martha welcomed Jesus into her home—a generous, faithful act. Then the work of hospitality grew so loud that she could no longer hear the Guest she was serving.
Jesus did not scold her for cooking. He named what was happening inside her: ‘You are anxious and troubled about many things.’ The problem was not the kitchen. It was that the kitchen had become the center.
Mary had chosen ‘the good portion’—a place at His feet. She made room for Jesus not by clearing her calendar entirely, but by letting Him be the reason for everything else.
This month, before the house is ready, make a small room in the day: ten minutes, one chair, an open Bible. A prepared heart makes every other preparation lighter.
Reflect
- What ‘many things’ are crowding your heart right now?
- Where could you sit at Jesus’ feet for ten minutes this week?
- What preparation could you hold more loosely?
Pray
Jesus, You are the Guest and the Host of my life. Make room in me for You, and let everything I prepare flow from time with You. Amen.
