Deuteronomy 8:10-18

Gather With Gratitude

6 minute read

Moses warned Israel about a particular spiritual danger: not scarcity, but fullness. When the houses were built, the flocks multiplied, and the table was full, they might say, ‘My power produced this wealth for me.’

Harvest can hide grace. We remember how hard we worked and forget the rain we did not send, the strength we did not create, and the ordinary mercies that held us together.

Gratitude is how we gather without gripping. It names the gift and the Giver in the same breath. It lets us enjoy what has grown without pretending we grew it alone.

Before you count what is still missing, pause over what is already on the table. Bless God for it by name. Thanksgiving turns provision into worship.

Reflect

  • What provision have you begun to treat as ordinary?
  • Where are you most tempted to credit only your own effort?
  • Who helped carry this season’s harvest with you?

Pray

Giver of every good gift, keep me from forgetting You in seasons of fullness. Make my gratitude specific, generous, and glad. Amen.
