Mark 4:35-41

Jesus Rested in the Storm

7 minute read

The storm was real. The water was entering the boat, experienced fishermen were afraid, and Jesus was asleep on a cushion. His rest was not denial; it was confidence.

The disciples asked the question fear often asks: ‘Do you not care?’ They interpreted His stillness as absence. Jesus rose, spoke peace to the wind, and then addressed the deeper storm inside them.

We often believe peace will begin when the weather changes. Jesus shows peace present before the wind stops. His calm came from knowing the Father held both the boat and the destination.

God’s rest does not require you to call a storm harmless. It invites you to remember who is with you in it. The presence of Christ is not smaller than the waves.

Reflect

  • What storm are you waiting to end before allowing yourself peace?
  • Where have you mistaken God’s quietness for lack of care?
  • How might Christ’s presence change the way you name this moment?

Pray

Jesus, speak peace over what is outside me and what is within me. Help me trust Your presence before the wind changes. Amen.
