Mark 1:35

A Quieter Morning

4 minute read

One verse. “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.”

Notice what is absent: no long routine, no perfect setting, no ideal season of life. Just early, dark, alone, prayer.

The verses just before this one describe a night of healing that lasted until the whole town was at the door. He was not rested. He went anyway.

As fall schedules tighten, the temptation is to fit God into whatever is left. Jesus modeled the opposite order.

Reflect

  • What would the first fifteen minutes of your morning look like if they were solitary?
  • What currently claims that time?
  • What is your version of “a solitary place” in the house you actually live in?

Pray

Jesus, You made room for the Father before You made room for the crowd. Teach me that order. Amen.
