The Roots Nobody Sees

Jeremiah paints two pictures: a shrub in the desert and a tree planted by water. The difference between them is not effort or scenery. It is proximity to a source.
The tree still meets heat. It still meets drought years. What it does not do is worry — because its roots already reached the water long before the dry spell arrived.
Rooting happens in unremarkable moments: the ten quiet minutes, the verse you reread, the prayer nobody heard. September is a good month to tend roots.
Ask yourself what your soul reaches toward first when you are anxious. That reach, repeated, is what a root is.
