Praying Scripture Through Fall
When you do not know what to pray, pray what God already said. Below are twelve verses turned into first-person prayers — one for each week of the fall season, or twelve for twelve hard days.
For the turning of the season
Pray these when the change itself is what unsettles you.
- Ecclesiastes 3:1 — Lord, this is a season and not a sentence. Help me receive it from Your hand.
- Psalm 31:15 — My times are in Your hands. I stop trying to hold the calendar.
- Lamentations 3:22-23 — Your mercies are new this morning. I take today's portion.
For weariness
Pray these on the mornings you are running on very little.
- Matthew 11:28 — I am coming to You tired. Give me rest that is not just sleep.
- Isaiah 40:31 — Renew my strength while I wait, not only after.
- Galatians 6:9 — Keep me from growing weary of doing good before the due season.
For rootedness
Pray these when you feel scattered or shallow.
- Jeremiah 17:8 — Send my roots toward the stream. Let me not fear the heat.
- Colossians 2:7 — Root me and build me up in Christ, and let thanksgiving overflow.
- Psalm 1:2-3 — Let me delight in Your word and yield fruit in season.
For gratitude
Pray these at the end of the day, out loud if you can.
- Psalm 100:4 — I enter Your gates with thanksgiving, even today.
- James 1:17 — Every good thing today came down from You. Thank You for these three:
- 1 Thessalonians 5:18 — Teach me to give thanks in this, not only for it.
Print it, fold it in half, and keep it in the back of your Bible. Praying Scripture is how you learn to pray in your own words.
